(Added to website 9/1/24)

Summary Provided by RFRS Club Member

Discussed rounds of golf being up over last year which I would expect since MV was closed last year.  The exact round are published on their site.  9 holes is considered a round.

Annual passes and punch cards count for the bulk of revenue for Golf.  This year they had $1.24 million in annuals vs $1.53 million for budget.  MV closure once again. Punch card revenue was $1.58 million vs the $1.9 million budget.

Talked about amortizing the annuals over 12 months to give a better feel for actual monthly revenue even though $'s received up front.

Overall green fees up over last year.

Had 112 players in the American Legion Folds of honor tournament and they contracted to play the tournament in 2025,26,27,  They raised $47K for military kids whose parent was wounded or killed in combat.  result is 9 scholarships.  past 7 years they have raised over $1 million resulting in 50 scholarships.

Merchandising brought in $16,309 approx. $400 below budget.

157 rounds booked online.  The last time  this happened was spring  2022

Mark Soto was hired to fill the Agronomy position and will start 9/16.  Was the director of Agronomy for the Gallery and wanted to get back with Troon.  Broad knowledge base.  Wrote 10 page document on the good bad and solution suggestions on just his one tour of the courses.

Mark was part of the team that did the rebuild on the Gallery course.  They did 100% of the work in house.  He has built several courses .  Should be a strong addition to the team.

Looking to increase the fun with more events and private club atmosphere.  Looking also at expanding lessons and get more people involved in golf.

$$$$  Looking at possible rolling shade area for lessons to provide shade

Still on the search for another assistant pro.

Sand in parking lots will be removed after over seeding which begins soon.

$$$$  Staffing dollars will be going up with the new hires but will be slightly offset as the number of part time staff will reduce.  Overall however higher.

New charter to meet the template guidelines requested by Board is close to completion.  They have not yet been finalized and/or presented to the Board for approval.  What jumped out is that the purpose is to be the "voice of the customer".  In other words 100% what the golfer wants, then report that to the board and the board will see how it fits with other resident needs, wants and thoughts on the decisions.

Added a roundtable discussion on Sept 16 2024 9:30am Catalina Room MV.

Lee Leksell was leaning toward a multi year phased approach but now feels closing the course and doing 100% is a better choice. He feels the phased approach will have a greater effect on annuals.  wants to examine loss of revenue.  Still needs to look at all around dollars.   Troon will be presenting the reasons to close the course down and do it in one year.

Lee is concerned by phasing the rebuild that everyone will go to HOA1 (why would they if MV is playing better than HOA1 now?).  He Feels outside play will be severely impacted and our reviews will drop doing a front 9 back 9 approach. (he did agree that outside play is a very small percentage of our revenue especially in the summer when a phased approach would be utilized.)

Lee felt with the new Charter terms the Golf Club should not be determining best strategy for the entire hoa2 but instead simply reporting what the actual golfers ideal scenario would be.

$$$$ Lee talked about possibly looking for donations from golfers for some of the "nice to have" items such as changing the design on holes 8,10 and 18 since those were not strictly maintenance items.

Stated over seeding would not be done every year and the course will look rough for part of the year when it is not over seeded.

The proposed rate sheets were presented for 2025 but it is expected there will be further changes so will not be released until final approval by board. They did make a couple changes that should be beneficial not only to members but also to increase staff efficiency.
